The team at Scarborough RNLI Lifeboat station are holding a 'Sea Swimming Safety Talk' today to raise awareness.
The session aims to help people keep safe as we head into the winter and the water temperature starts to drop.
Daniel Bedwell is the RNLI's Water safety delivery support for the North East.
The charity is inviting people to join them from 10:00am to 12:00pm or 1:00pm to 3:00pm for a chat with local experts about swimming and dipping in the sea.
There will be an opportunity to learn about:
- How to stay safe
- Effects of shock
- Case studies
- Best places to swim
Daniel says that the talks will hopefully educate people about the dangerous of swimming in the winter.
Alongside the talks, there will be special items available to purchase from the lifeboat shop as well as free tours around the station.
Andy Volans, RNLI water safety advisor, said:
"Open water swimming in Scarborough is becoming more and more popular and the RNLI would like to hear more from local swimmers and dippers in the area and also share our RNLI advice"
