Public Meeting to Discuss Proposed Gas Well in Burniston

A public meeting is taking place this evening to inform the community about a planning application submitted by Europa Oil and Gas for a gas rig in Burniston.

The meeting is being organised by Frack Free Coastal Communities.

Chris Garforth, a member of the steering group of Frack Free Coastal Communities says purpose of the meeting is to inform people about what Europa Oil and Gas are proposing to do and explain to attendees how they can comment on the proposal to the planners at North Yorkshire.

The meeting will include a short presentation detailing information gleaned from the planning application documents, there will be an opportunity for discussion and a question and answer session.

Chris Garfoth says the proposed gas well could have long term impacts for the local area, he says there are a number of concerns that have been voiced by local residents.

Information will also be displayed on boards around the venue at the rugby club, featuring maps and plans to provide a better understanding of the proposals and their potential impact on local residents. Members of the steering group will be available to discuss the commenting process with attendees who require further information.

Mr. Garforth highlighted the importance of the process, noting that the North Yorkshire online planning register has been experiencing technical difficulties. As a result, the planners and Frack Free Coastal Communities are encouraging people to email their comments instead, and details on how to do this will be provided at the meeting.

The meeting will take place at the Scarborough Rugby Club on Scalby Road, starting at 7 o'clock  Chris Garforth says the location has significance.

Frack Free Coastal Communities is urging anyone with views on the application to attend the meeting and utilise the opportunity to comment,

The statutory consultation period for the planning application ends on the 26th of March.
