The NHS in North Yorkshire says it is preparing to ramp up it's vaccination programme
It comes after the announcement this week that all over 18's are now eligible for a booster jab and that the gap between the second and third jabs has been reduced to 3 months.
Amanda Bloor from the NHS in the county says more vaccination sites will be bought into service.
North Yorkshire NHS say the staffing of the roll out is likely to involve a large number of volunteers and could involve military personal.
Amanda Bloor says the plans will take a little while to be put in place and asks people not to contact their GP's about booster vaccine appointments.
While the NHS website does allow people over 40 to book a third does of a vaccine, it is currently still working on the basis of their being a six month gap between the second and third jabs, rather then the three months announced this week.
A message on the website says:
"The NHS is working on plans to offer:
- a booster dose to everyone aged 18 years old and over
- a booster dose to people aged 16 years old and over with a severely weakened immune system
- booster doses from 3 months after the previous dose - currently it's from 6 months after the previous dose
- a 2nd dose to all children aged 12 to 15 years old who are not already eligible
Please note that this is not yet available.
We'll update this page once the service is updated. Please wait to be contacted by the NHS."
