Scarborough's Armed Forces day event in June has been highlighted as one of the stand out successes of North Yorkshire summer events season.
Councillor Simon Myers is North Yorkshire Council's Executive Member for Culture, he says there has been a strong programme of events over the summer months across the county and says the Armed Forces event in Scarborough was a particular success with an increase in attendance figures.
A report presented to the executive this week stated that the Armed Forces Day event in Scarborough was attended by over 20,000 people and
brought increases of 10-15% in footfall compared to the previous weekends to the town.
The report also states that the major venues in Scarborough (Spa & Open Air Theatre) have delivered "a full programme of events during the period, bringing significant economic benefits into the area".
As part of his update to the Executive Councillor Myers also said that the half a million pound revamp of Scarborough Library has had a positive impact on the library's usage.
Councillor Myers says since the library reopened in May there has been a positive response from local library users.
Scarborough Library reopened in May after a three-month closure to allow for the refurbishment. The £500k project was part-funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport's Library Improvement Fund.
Scarborough Library had its first full month of use in June, having just under 13k visitors and issuing 10.4k books. Users were able to take advantage of the brand-new IT area, with public access computers being used for over 2k sessions.
