Police in Eastfield have launched a dedicated operation to crack down on the illegal and dangerous use of off-road bikes in the area.
Operation Bungalow aims to educate and prosecute riders who pose a risk to themselves and the public.
This comes as a direct response to concerns raised by the community, with police acknowledging the public outcry over the issue. "We are well aware that you, the public, are shouting about this issue and hopefully this shows that we are listening," said PC Waterman.
The operation is already seeing results, with three off-road bikes seized and three riders identified for prosecution just yesterday. Police are utilising a range of tactics, including:
- 24-hour surveillance cameras installed on the estate to gather evidence of anti-social behaviour.
- Collaboration with response colleagues and operational units to develop effective strategies.
- Planned partnership with the traffic department's off-road bike team to pursue offenders.
While these measures are in place, police are still urging the public to report any incidents. Residents are encouraged to call 999 if they witness dangerous riding or contact the police via 101 to provide information anonymously.
PC Waterman expressed confidence in the operation's success, stating: "I look forward to pushing this Operation on." With a dedicated team and the support of the community, Operation Bungalow is poised to make a significant impact on tackling the scourge of illegal off-road bikes in Eastfield.
