Police Launch Dashcam Footage Upload Function

Dashcam footage of poor driving can now be uploaded directly to the North Yorkshire Police website.

The number of 999 calls made to North Yorkshire police fell for the first time in a decade last year.

The number of calls fell 5% during 2020. This reduction is considered to be Covid-19 related as it corresponds with a similar reduction in national 999 calls to the Police.

In the last three months a total of 55,850 incidents have been reported.

2,941 incidents have been Covid-19related plus 1,917 reports received via the new “Single On-Line Home” portal in respect of Covid-19 regulation breaches.

The On-Line Portal allows the public to report some offences via the North Yorkshire Police website rather than by having to call the control room.

North Yorkshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, Julia Mulligan, says the online service is being expanded and says new functionality was added last week to enable the reporting of poor and dangerous driving.

Reports of poor driving can be submitted online here https://northyorkshire.police.uk/do-it-online/report-it/road-policing/

The force says the types of poor driving it can investigate includes:

  • Overtaking on solid white lines
  • Using a mobile phone whilst driving
  • Failing to comply with traffic signals
  • Contravening traffic directions
  • Endangering other road user through poor driving

It's hoped the online systems will in time reduce the volume of calls to the 101 service. Julia says a range of other services will be added to the online system over the coming months.
