Coast & Vale Community Action is considering the possibility of setting up a local courier service for businesses that need a retail delivery service for the area during lockdown.
As many local business are forced to close their doors to the public today as a result of the second national lockdown, CaVCA is exploring plans to help local shops set up online stores and ways to provide a local delivery service.
If there is sufficient interest, the idea is that small, independent enterprises which don’t have a means of continuing their customer base could use a centralised transport distribution for their products.
CaVCA says it could help create such a service, collecting goods and products around town which have been ordered by customers, helping enterprises which do not have their own distribution service or would find it too time-consuming.
Mel Bonney, CaVCA chief executive, said:
“We are keen to support independent traders and we know from the previous lockdown that some local enterprises could not maintain their customer base because of the problems regarding distribution and not having the resource for a click-and-collect, and some had to resort to posting out their products.”
“If we receive enough interest for the idea of a local distribution service to assist the independents, we would look at the logistics that meant Scarborough-based retailers could still reach their local customer base.”
