Scarborough-based not-for-profit Raincliffe Wood Community Enterprise (RWCE) is getting in the festive spirit.
Throughout December there will be a programme of workshops and events celebrating the winter woodland.
“‘Tis the season to use Holly”, a series of workshops will run over two weeks as part of RWCE’s Working Woodland Heritage project which is supported by the HEY Smile Foundation and Farming in Protected Landscapes. Craft workshops kick off on 2nd December with festive wreath making before giving participants the chance to make their own walking stick and carve a spoon from this surprisingly versatile wood.
Gillian Astbury, Events and Outreach Officer at Raincliffe Wood Community Enterprise, said,
"Throughout December, you can hunt for Santa’s lost reindeer in the woods by joining the Raincliffe Reindeer Rescue. Download our map and follow the clues to help track him down. To help get him home we need to use the power of social media and the #raincliffereindeer. You could even win a prize too!
Our Christmas Craft fair is taking place on Saturday 10th December 11am-2pm. We have a range of stalls from local independent craft makers, a wreath making workshop and a book giveaway by the Literacy Trust. Keep this quiet but we heard from a little elf that Santa may be around, trying to find his missing reindeer!
If you are looking for something to do with the kids in the run up to the big day, bring them along to the woods for some woodland Festive Crafts. Have a go at making some twig Christmas trees and wooden ornaments for your tree! Tuesday 20th December 11-2pm"
These events are part of the Scarborough’s Wonderful Woodlands project, which is supported by the National Lottery Community Fund to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Gillian Astbury said,
“It’s been a tough year for a lot of people, so being able to offer free activities throughout the festive season is something we are passionate about. Being in the woodland in winter is magical enough, but we hope that by offering this wide range of events that there is something for everyone to enjoy. Thanks again to the National Lottery players for making this possible.”
