Pickering Affected by Storm Damage

Pickering Town Council says it has had reports of damage at the community park and cemetery.

Storm Darragh bought strong winds and heavy rain to the area over the weekend.

Pickering Town Council say that reports over the weekend showed that the town's flood defences were working and the storage bund had seen record levels, although some areas of town did experience localised flooding.

In an update on Monday the council said:

"Unfortunately, we have been affected by the storm at the weekend and have had trees come down in the cemetery and Community Park and a play area fence damaged. Staff are out assessing what needs to be done and we will be working with contractors to put things right as quickly as possible.

If any grave furniture has been affected by fallen trees in the cemetery we will be contacting the families involved, but if anyone has any concerns please contact admin@pickering.gov.uk or telephone the office on 01751 476503.

We have reported a fallen tree on the public right of way that leads from the western side of the Community Park to the castle, and there are trees down in our woodland adjacent to the park that have left large holes and uneven ground surfaces. Please observe warning notices and avoid this area.

If residents are concerned about any other issues in the town following the storm and flooding over the weekend please get in touch and we will pass this on to the relevant authorities."
