The Whitby and Scarborough Park and Ride services are scheduled to reopen from Sunday.
North Yorkshire Council says the Park and Ride services in Scarborough and Whitby will be operational again from Sunday 6 April 2025.
Scarborough boasts two Park and Ride locations: Filey Road and Seamer Road, both of which will be open every day from Sunday 6 April to Sunday 2 November 2025, including bank holidays. Buses from these sites will run every 20 minutes, following a circular route that includes stops at South Bay and York Place before returning to the respective Park and Ride.
The Scarborough Park and Ride aims to cater to a diverse range of customers, from commuters to day trippers, by offering an affordable alternative to parking in the town centre. Regular users have the option to purchase season tickets and can take advantage of free parking spaces. North Yorkshire Council states that the fare paid for the bus journey covers both parking and the use of facilities. Tickets can be bought on the bus or through the East Yorkshire Buses app. Accompanied children, up to a maximum of three per adult, can travel for free, and child fares are available for any additional children.
For those planning to bring their dogs, North Yorkshire Council advises that they can travel on the bus at the discretion of the driver, and a small charge is applicable. The Seamer Road Park and Ride (service 64) offers 500 free parking spaces, while the Filey Road Park and Ride (service 165) provides 600 free spaces. It is important to note that the park and ride site, including the car park, will be closed and locked 15 minutes after the last bus, and there is no way to recover vehicles left on site after closure.
The Whitby Park and Ride service will also reopen from Sunday 6 April 2025. Located at the A171 / B1460 junction north of Whitby (postcode YO21 1TL), it offers 450 free parking spaces. Similar to Scarborough, the Whitby Park and Ride provides an affordable alternative to town centre parking, catering to both commuters and day trippers. The site includes "a modern, clean, energy-efficient building with a waiting area and toilets".
The fare paid to travel on the bus in Whitby covers parking and the use of facilities, and tickets are purchased directly from the bus driver. Unlike Scarborough, there is no extra charge for dogs on the Whitby Park and Ride buses, subject to the driver's discretion. There are two bus services, P1 and P2, offering different routes to Whitby centre, both operating directly from Whitby Bus Station to the Park and Ride. Buses generally operate every 30 minutes, with increased frequency during peak summer periods.
North Yorkshire Council advises that parking is free for users of both the Scarborough and Whitby Park and Ride services, and bus fares remain the same even for those who do not utilise the parking facility. Several restrictions are in place at both locations: vehicles are not permitted to park overnight, and caravans are not allowed. However, motorhomes are permitted to park at the sites.

Potential users are reminded that ticket prices are subject to change and should be confirmed at the respective Park and Ride sites before commencing their journey. The reopening of these services is expected to provide a welcome boost for accessibility to the popular coastal towns of Scarborough and Whitby.
