North Yorkshire Police Call Answer Times Get Quicker

North Yorkshire Police say the time it takes them to answer their non emergency 101 line has drastically reduced over the last year.

The force had come in for criticism over the length of time callers were waiting.

Assistant Chief Constable – Scott Bissett – says the situation has got much better but admits there is still more to do.

This time last year the force was taking an average of six minutes to answer but some calls were taking up to an hour to be answered.

ACC Bissett says that situation has now drastically improved.

Between July and September the North Yorkshire force received 65,172 calls to it's 101 line.

The force aims to answer 90% of 101 calls within two minutes, over the summer period it answered 59% of calls within that time frame, up from 53% a year ago.

The average answer time for a 101 call over the three month period was two minutes and 14 seconds.

26% of calls were answered in under 10 seconds, just over 11% of calls took more than 5 minutes to answer and nearly 6% took longer than 10m minutes.

75% of calls to 101 were answered but 23% of calls were abandoned by the caller.
