North Yorkshire Moors Railway is in the process of replacing a section of track which dates from the 1950's.
The railway is currently closed for the winter and various work is being done across all parts of the railway during the closed season.
One of the many jobs which is progressing this winter is being undertaken by the Permanent Way Team. They are currently replacing fifty seven 60ft lengths of 1950s bullhead rail. These are usually 60ft lengths of rail and are shaped like a vertical dumbbell, they are being replaced with modern Continuously Welded Rail, which is made from flat bottom rails welded together by a flash or thermite reaction, and can by made multiple kilometres long.
The railway say they hope the work will help to ensure a smooth and comfortable ride for passengers next season.
