A combination of the weather and some stubborn late-order batting denied victories to our four leading local cricket sides on Saturday.
Scarborough Cricket Club were again frustrated by the weather as they look to return to winning form in Yorkshire Premier North. They were scheduled to host York, in a local derby at North Marine Road, instead rain forced the game to be cancelled.
Scarborough's second team proved a thorn in the side of York & District Division One East leaders Bridlington. Sam Wragg top-scored with 53 but Brid were skittled for 187 at Dukes Park- Adam Newington took 4 for 36. Casey Rudd then took 4 for 19 and Russell Robinson 3 for 36 but the visitors batted out 54 overs, finishing on 126 for 9 to scrape a draw.
In the York Premier, Folkton and Flixton's improved form came to an end as they let Welton off the hook in the East Riding. Choosing to field, Folkton had their hosts 25/2 and 63/3 but two big partnerships saw them recover to 183/4 and eventually post 218/6 from their 50 overs. Harry Walmsley took 3 for 85 and Max Harland 2 for 39. In reply, the visitors struggled to 6 for 2, before recovering to 150/3. However, Elliott Hatton's dismissal, for 79, prompted a collapse to 183 all out and a 35-run defeat with just two overs remaining.
Whitby suffered a first league defeat since the opening day as Wolviston bowled them out for 120 at the Turnbull Ground. Alf Jacobs' 35 was the only real resistance as Fin Morris' presence with bat and ball was missed. The away side marched to victory, with just four wickets lost and 20 overs remaining.
