Nine new flats are to be built on the site of a former agricultural merchants store in the village of Ruswarp, near Whitby.
Scarborough Council’s planning committee approved the plans from BHD Partnership for the former BATA site in High Street on Thursday, last week.
The store had been previously demolished after it ceased trading.
The new flats will be located in a three-storey building on the land, which is next to the railway line that runs into Whitby.
At the meeting last week, councillors gave the scheme the thumbs up.
Cllr David Jeffels told the meeting:
“I think the style overall will be very appropriate for the area.”
Cllr Phil Trumper added:
“I think it is quite an attractive development on that space.”
The committee was told that the number of flats meant that it fell below the level needed for any of the the properties to be sold as affordable housing.
The plans were approved unanimously.
