Hunmanby Parish Council and Scarborough Borough Council have teamed up with a local business, the White Swan to provide a community toilet in Hunmanby.
Both Hunmanby Parish Council and Scarborough Borough Council have worked with Andrew Bowles of the White Swan in Hunmanby to identify the best way of providing a public accessible toilet in the village.
Both Councils have agreed a Service Level Agreement to financially support the Community Toilet with Hunmanby Parish Council contributing £1,000 and Scarborough Borough Council contributing £2,000 (£3,000 in total) per annum to support the White Swan in maintaining the community toilet.
Cllr. Harvey Stockdale, Chairman of Hunmanby Parish Council commented,
"I would like to thank Andy Bowles of the White Swan for the hard work he has put in getting the toilet up to the standard required for use as a Community Toilet. This has been a real team effort by all involved and I want to thank everyone who made it happen."
Cllr. Michelle Donohue-Moncrieff, Scarborough Borough Councillor for Hunmanby Ward and Hunmanby Parish Councillor said,
"This is fantastic news for our residents and visitors. I am extremely grateful to the team at the White Swan and Hunmanby Parish Council and Scarborough Borough Council for working together to get us to the point. I was delighted to support through a SBC Locality grant, the purchase by of new signs for the toilet by Hunmanby Parish Council."
Cllr, Paul Riley, Scarborough Borough Councillor commented,
"This was the first project I took on as a Scarborough Borough Councillor and it has been a pleasure to work with all involved, in particular Andy Bowles who has shown real community spirit in the work carried out on the toilet to where it is now open and funding is in place for its maintenance."
Hunmanby Parish Council had worked with Borough Councillors, Paul Riley and Michelle Donohue-Moncrieff to have the concept of a Community Toilet Scheme in areas without a public toilet, included in Scarborough Borough Council's Public Toilet Strategy which was approved by Cabinet in February 2020.
