NatWest has announced that its Bridlington branch will close on 11 June 2025
The bank stated that the decision to close the branch was not taken lightly and is due to a significant shift in how customers are choosing to bank. They cite an "increased demand for mobile and online services" as customers adopt "a faster and easier way to bank".
Nat West say that the Bridlington branch has seen a 38% decrease in counter transactions by personal customers between October 2019 and October 2024. In addition, 71% of personal customers using the branch also chose to use online banking or the mobile app between November 2023 and October 2024. The bank reports that an average of 199 personal customers and 126 business customers used the branch monthly.
NatWest assures customers that although the branch is closing, they will still provide support. The bank is offering a variety of alternative banking options including:
- Mobile and Online Banking
- Video Banking
- Telephone Banking
- Post Office services
- Cash Access UK deposit services
The bank has also stated that it is working with Cash Access UK and other banks to provide cash depositing services around the UK. In addition, NatWest are opening community pop-up sites for up to twelve weeks after branch closures in selected locations. These pop-ups will provide support, connecting customers to local and digital banking services. A community pop-up will be introduced following the closure, based in a community venue near to the closing branch, and will be accessible for all and be available for up to 12 weeks.
NatWest is making proactive telephone calls to customers over the coming weeks, providing tailored support. The bank will also hold a face-to-face event in the branch to provide education on local banking services.
Those who prefer face-to-face banking will face some significant journeys, the nearest NatWest branches are in Scarborough, which is 17.48 miles away, and Malton which is 29.04 miles away. Customers can also use the Post Office for cash withdrawals and deposits, as well as balance enquiries. The nearest Post Offices to the Bridlington branch are on Quay Road, Sandsacre, and The Promenade.
"Closing a branch is always difficult and not a decision that we ever take lightly," NatWest said. The bank also stated:
"We completely understand that online banking isn’t right for everyone. Sometimes you want to chat things through with someone. We promise that you’ll still be able to talk to one of our team either on the phone, by video or in one of our other branches".
NatWest has a dedicated support line for customers over 60 or who are in a period of extended isolation, open from 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week. Premier customers can call a dedicated line. Business customers can also call a dedicated line or speak to their bank point of contact.
Customers who require additional support due to changing circumstances can use the free ‘Banking My Way’ service.
NatWest has stated that they will update their factsheet with details of who they contacted about the closure, a summary of responses, and any complaints at natwest.com/branchclosures by 28 May 2025.
