Changes to the NHS in the East Riding mean a greater involvement for the local council but there are warning sit could damage community hospitals.
Changes to the way the NHS is structured could have a detrimental effect on the East Riding's community Hospitals.
That's the fear of East Yorkshire Lib Dem Councillor David Nolan.
He says the introduction of new Integrated Care system at the start of July could see a trend to the NHS commissioning more of it's services in specialist centres with fewer capabilities at East Yorkshire's community hospitals.
The six clinical commissioning groups in the Humber, Coast and Vale area were replaced by a single Integrated Care System (ICS) on 1 July 2022, which changes the way services are commissioned. The idea is that the ICS, with increased involvement from local authorities, will place more emphasis on commissioning services according to local needs. 42 of the ICS systems have been set up across the country.
The leader of East Riding Council, Councillor Jonathan Owen says that for the first time the local council is represented on the group.
