Mixed Fortunes For Yorkshire Coast Cricketers

A mixed bag of results saw wins for two of our local sides, a draw and a loss as Scarborough, Bridlington, Whitby and Folkton and Flixton were all in action.

Scarborough made it two wins in two as they clinched a tight encounter at Clifton Alliance in Yorkshire Premier North.

Piet Rinke's men batted first with Breidyn Schaper making 112 of their 196 for 8 in 50 overs.

The hosts started steadily but slipped from 99/2 to 179 all out. Schaper impressed with the ball, taking 4 for 30, with Ben Elvidge grabbing 4 for 48 and Linden Gray 2 for 44 as Scarborough won by 17 runs.

Bridlington have their first victory in the YRN Championship after a five-wicket win over Carlton Towers.

Towers started well but then slipped from 121/1 to 192 all out. Russell Robinson did most of the damage, picking up 6 for 52. Casey Rudd took 3 for 31 as Brid sparked a spectacular collapse.

Robinson then took his side to victory with an unbeaten 53 in an unbroken 60-run partnership with Nathan Johnson as Bridlington got home in the 46th over.

In the same division, Folkton & Flixton were invited to bowl by Malton & Old Malton. A stern target of 291/7 was set, Jadon Wilson took 2 for 52 and Harry Walmsley picked up 3 for 81.

The former Village Cup winners, coming into the match on a run of back to back wins, lost Elliot Hatton for 10, but recovered as skipper and fellow opener Tom Norman added 62. However, a collapse from 103/1 to 132/8 followed and only Connor Stephenson's destructive 38 from 25 balls showed any other resistance. Norman's men fell to 169 all out inside 40 overs, losing by 122 runs.

Whitby halted their poor start to the new season with a losing draw at Marton Seconds in North Yorkshire South Durham Division One.

Kai Morris won the toss and put the hosts in, but may have been regretting the decision as they raced to 206/2. But Tom Steyert took 2 for 47, including top scorer Jack Leadbitter (77) and Ricky Hall removed the dangerous Luke Middlemiss, Morris himself then took late wickets as Marton were held to 236/6 from their 50 overs. In reply, Whitby started steadily, putting on 34 for the first wicket, before Lewis Brearley fell for a bright 22 from 41 balls. The visitors then fell to 57/3, but rebuilt with Theo Clarke impressing with 73 from 96 balls. Useful 23s from Paul Buck and Mark Jackson meant Whitby clung on to make 173/9 from their 50 overs, despite Leadbitter bowling Steve Allen right at the end.
