The highly anticipated Yorkshire Coast 10k race get's underway today with over 2,000 runners entering the race.
There will also be a 5k race, for the first time, with over 100 people set to take part.
The 10k course starts at the Scarborough Spa at 9:45am before moving round South Bay, past the Harbour, round the headland and into North Bay. The course then moves through the Open Air Theatre where there will be a water stop and then out to the Sea Life Centre before making a return to the Spa.
There will also be a £250 bonus for setting a new course record. Currently Ricky Stevenson holds the mens record for 30:15 in 2010 whereas Kate Avery set the womens record with 35:39 in 2011.
The event is entirely volunteer run with our 100 members of Scarborough Athletic helping on the day.
All the profits are donated to local worthy causes and the organisers have ensured that the levels of sustainability are maintained throughout the event.
The 10k medals have been mined in Wales and the Fun Run medals are fully bio compostable, which means you can plant them and grow wild flowers.
Danny Walls is one of the race directors and he says that they've tried to make the event as sustainable as possible.
The lead car is electric and has been kindly donated from Vantage KIA Scarborough.
North Yorkshire Council are providing recycling bins to collect the bottles for recycling and race t-shirts have been made from 100% recycled polyester.
Danny says that they've introduced a new race to cater for different age groups.
