Late Drama as Brid Refuse To be Beaten

Bridlington Town twice came from behind in a thriller in NPL East.

Four goals in the final 16 minutes concluded a 2-2 draw for Bridlington Town against Grantham Town at the Hudgell Solicitor Stadium.

Will Sutton came straight into the side having rejoined the club, whilst Harry Milner was given his first league start. They replaced Alex Markham and Ali Aydemir, whilst Glen Sani was also drafted into the starting lineup as Jake Brown has returned to Hull City.

The Gingerbreads were decent for the opening 10 minutes or so, but it was the Seasiders who were in control for the remainder of the first half, creating multiple chances.

Most notably, Sani saw his one-on-one superbly saved by Curtis Hall, and a cross found Lewis Dennison in the centre, who guided his header towards goal but into the arms of the ‘keeper.

Sutton tried his luck from range, with the left-back’s effort narrowly missing the crossbar.

The second half was the complete opposite, with Grantham pinning Bridlington in their own half with spells of sustained pressure.

It was pressure which proved to pay as they found the opener after 74 minutes. Harry Olivant laid the ball off to Ryan Rushden, who slotted the ball into the top corner.

Just seven minutes later and the hosts were level. Andy Norfolk whipped in a deep free kick towards the right-hand side. He superbly picked out Jack Bulless, with the centre-back continuing his excellent surprising goalscoring form of late by heading past Hall.

With one minute of regular time remaining, the Gingerbreads were ahead again. The goal came about in an unorthodox fashion, with Rushden’s effort appearing to deflect off James Williamson which sent the ball treacling into the back of the net.

Bridlington Town, however, showed immense character to come from behind for a second time. Similar to the first goal, the assist was of top quality, this time with Matty Dixon clipping a ball in behind for Dennison to pounce on. The striker did just that, and finished well to earn a point in the 94th minute.
