July's Marathon Challenge for Scarborough Samaritans

Scarborough's Samaritans are encouraging everyone to run a marathon in July to help improve their mental health and raise some funds for the organisation

.The good news is you don't have to do the 26 miles all in one go and you don't even have to run.

Libby Gilbert from the Samaritans in Scarborough says the Samarathon event is open to everyone.

The idea of the Samarathon is that the participants complete a 26 mile challenge across the month of July, a little at a time.

They can walk or jog 26.2 miles throughout July to help Samaritans save lives and prevent suicide. The challenge can be undertaken individually or in groups.

Libby Gilbert from Scarborough Samaritans says the idea is to raise some funds and improve peoples mental health by getting outdoors.

The event is taking place across the country, the Samaritans say:

"Samarathon is the fundraising challenge that fits around your life. You can complete your miles wherever and whenever you like throughout the month. While most of the thousands of people joining in will be walking or jogging, this challenge is for everyone. You can take part however you like, and we encourage everyone to get creative and adapt the challenge to suit their own needs.

Whatever your ability and however much you can raise, Samarathon is about coming together to ensure support is there for everyone in tough times. Raising £50 could enable us to answer ten potentially lifesaving calls for help."

Samarathon is sponsored by Three. As official sponsor, Three is promoting the event among its 300 stores and 4,300 employees to encourage more people to get involved and help Samaritans save lives.
