An investigation into Humberside’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Jonathan Evison, has been dropped by the policing watchdog.
In October 2024, a complaint against the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) was referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). The following month, a further complaint was made by the same complainant which was also referred to the IOPC.
It has now been confirmed that the IOPC has decided not to proceed to a formal investigation after assessing the complaints made against Mr Evison. Reacting to this development, Mr Evison has said:
“During my tenure as Police and Crime Commissioner, I have consistently prioritised integrity and trust in all decision-making processes, adhering to due process, seeking advice where appropriate and maintaining professionalism.
“It is disheartening that other parties involved have not upheld the same standards. This has resulted in what has felt like a trial by media when I have been constrained in trying to uphold the very integrity of the processes in place that are there to provide the correct checks and balances in relation to conduct.”
The issue has now been referred back to the Humberside Police and Crime panel who referred the complaints to the IOPC in late 2024.
An IOPC spokesperson has said:
“We can confirm we received two referrals from Humberside Police and Crime Panel in October and November 2024. In line with requirements and after carefully assessing the available information, we decided that an investigation by the IOPC is not required and the matters have been returned to the appropriate authority.”
