Inclusive Sports Day in Scarborough

After a break due to the pandemic an inclusive sport event is set to return to Scarborough Sports Village on Saturday to raise awareness of inclusive sport opportunities across the Borough.

The event is being co-ordinated by the Scarborough & District Inclusive Sport Group which is a network of inclusive clubs and providers that has an overall aim of increasing awareness of inclusive sport, increasing participation and also assisting the existing clubs with their development.

The event is being hosted by Everyone Active at Scarborough Sports Village and will see inclusive providers deliver sessions at the facility.

Matt Hewison, Scarborough Borough Council’s Sports Development Manager explains the background behind the initiative;

“We have developed inclusive sport across the Borough significantly and also introduced an Inclusive Sport Group that involves key stakeholders to support the inclusive sport network.

The existing clubs do such a great job of providing inclusive opportunities, so we thought this was a great chance to celebrate what they do and also raise awareness of the clubs and the sports at the same time.

All the groups are run by volunteers who give their time each week to deliver sessions, so we always try and support them with any initiative to help them develop and sustain activity.

The Inclusive Sport Event is something we have delivered successfully in the past and it’s great that we are able to offer this event again.

During the evening people can access the swimming pool with the sensory lighting and have a go at a number of inclusive sport including boccia, new age kurling and bowls; we also aim to celebrate ability, not disability”

The event is on Saturday 4th March at Scarborough Sports Village from 4 – 7pm and is FREE to attend.
