Heartbreak for Brid Despite Victory

It was the final day of the season in cricket's Yorkshire Premier North Championship on Saturday, with Bridlington and Folkton & Flixton in action.

Brid were fighting relegation, knowing they not only had to win well themselves, but have to rely on other results going their way.

They lost the toss and were invited to bat first, they looked on for the large score they needed at 147/1.

However, they slipped to 169/6 and only a useful unbeaten 19 down the order from Thomas Hudson helped the hosts to 229, before they were bowled out, in the 49th over.

Opener Richard Lount top-scored with a dominant 77 from 95 balls, Josh Mainprize added 28 and Casey Rudd made 20.

Brid bowled well, despite a bright start from visitors Welton, who slipped from 51/1 to 84/5.

Rudd took 3 for 42 and Russ Robinson 4/45. Hudson grabbed 2/36 and Ricky Robinson 1/39 as Welton were skittled for 196, in the 44th over.

The 33-run victory only yielded ten points, which wasn't enough to stave off the drop, as Bridlington return to Division One East after last year's promotion.

The club also saw their second team demoted, after they finished bottom of the Beckett League Premier Division.

Also in the Championship, Folkton & Flixton finish seventh after losing out, at home, to York Seconds.

After being put into bat, the visitors slipped to 69/4 with Jake Hatton's superb 60 from 84 balls the stand-out innings.

Wicket-keeper Marley Ward's unbeaten 19 helped the hosts to 186 before they were skittled in the 48th over.

Defending a low total, Folkton & Flixton's bowlers begun well, as York slipped to 94/4.

However a 58-run fifth-wicket stand put the away side in the ascendancy and they made their target with more than 13 overs and four wickets remaining.

Elliot Hatton took 2 for 32 and Harry Walmsley 2/43, they were also wickets for Jadon Wilson and Connor Stephenson.

Whitby and Scarborough finished their respective seasons, last week.
