Green Party Reveals General Election Candidate for Scarborough and Whitby

Scarborough and Whitby Green Party has selected Annette Hudspeth as its candidate for the next General Election.

Annette has lived in the northern part of the constituency for many years and is currently the Green Party’s volunteer co-ordinator for the Whitby and Esk Valley area.  She has been a Green Party candidate in local elections on three occasions.

Annette said:

"I am honoured to have been selected by the Green Party to be the candidate in the next General Election, which cannot come soon enough.

“We have had enough of politicians who say one thing and do another, who pay lip service to the climate emergency but give the go-ahead for airport expansions, unnecessary high speed rail and new fossil fuel development.

“People are looking for honesty and integrity in politics. Not only have I been active in campaigns against fracking, poverty and fossil fuels, but I live according to my beliefs. I travel by foot and on public transport. My house was fitted with sustainable energy 11 years ago. I try to shop and eat locally. Aware of the environmental damage caused by animal husbandry, I have become vegan.

“I always try to follow the maxim ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’.

“I am an advocate of a reduced working week. This will lead to a healthier society with positive mental health outcomes and improved wellbeing.”

Green Party co-leader Carla Denyer said:

"By voting Green, people can show they share our faith that the UK is a country of good, compassionate, talented people - and that together we can solve the problems facing us.

"We will invest properly in our public services and in the environment, transforming the tax system so that we end the decades where the rich have got richer and have avoided their responsibility to share their wealth.

"Our investments in people, in nature and in action on the climate will mean we all do better. They will build security for the future and create hundreds of thousands of skilled and well-paid jobs across the country.

"We can do better - together we can create a fairer, greener country."

Annette attended Medway and Maidstone College, now Canterbury Christ Church University, and studied for a Certificate and Qualification in Social Work (CQSW.) She worked in Residential Childrens Care Services. She also studied Counselling, gained Diplomas in Holistic Therapies and qualified with TEFL to English as a Foreign Language. Since 2021 she has been a  Part Time Support Worker in Esk Moor Lodge, Castleton.  She also enjoys swimming, knitting, reading, crosswords, vegan cookery, visiting stately homes and gardens, walking, yoga and looking after her granddaughters.

Alison Hume has been selected as the Labour Party’s candidate and Roberto Weeden-Sanz as the Conservative candidate for the constituency after Sir Robert Goodwill said he would be retiring as local MP at the next election. Asa Jones has been selected as the Social Justice Party’s parliamentary candidate.
