Former Bridlington RNLI Crew Member Steps Out for the May Day Mile

Former Volunteer at Bridlington RNLI, Glenn Walker, is set to raise funds for the May Day Mile campaign.

This summer, thousands of people will get into danger by the water, ordinary people enjoying days out with family or friends and the RNLI are warning that it so easy to get into danger.

The RNLI say they are determined to be there when they are needed most, but they need the public's help to raise money for vital kit and training. Usually, RNLI volunteer lifesavers answer mayday calls and go to rescue others but, this May, it's the RNLI who are asking for your help.

The organisation is encouraging people to take part in their Mayday Mile Event, the RNLI says:

"Will you answer our lifesavers’ call for help by doing a mile a day in May? Walk it, run it, skate it or even do it in yellow wellies.

You choose the time and place – on the beach, in the park, in the kitchen or your local swimming pool.

No matter how or where you do your Mayday Miles, your efforts will make a lifesaving difference.

The vital funds you raise will help give RNLI volunteers all they need to launch lifeboats to the rescue. Because of you, they’ll be ready when desperate calls for help come this summer."

Among those taking part is former Bridlington RNLI Crew Member, Glenn Walker.

Glenn said:

‘As the weather warms up more people will be drawn to the water. But as temperatures rise, so do the calls for help. Getting into trouble can happen to anyone and it happens so easily. It could happen to you, me, or someone we love.

I'll be completing one mile every day this May to raise money for the brave volunteer crews. Please donate to support me and consider joining me in completing a mile each day this month by walking, jogging or in any way you like.’
