Forge Valley Road Closure This Week

Seavegate highway running through the Forge Valley from East Ayton will be closed for tree safety work this week.

The main road running through the Forge Valley will be closed to all traffic this week as the team from Raincliffe woods undertake essential tree safety work.

Seavegate will be closed from 9am to 5pm each day until Friday. As a result, Seavegate, Wallis Quarry, Old Mans Mouth and Birdwatchers car park will all be closed to the public during this time.  A diversion route has been set up with North Yorkshire County Council Highways along Low Road to facilitate access to Mowthorpe and surrounding villages.

Paul Thompson is the community woodland manager for Raincliffe Woods, he says the work is needed to keep road users safe.

The work is being undertaken by the Raincliffe Woods Community Enterprise, it's a not for profit company with responsibility for the management of 222 hectares of land covering Forge Valley, Raincliffe and Row Brow Woods, all of which is either a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) or a Protected Ancient Woodland Site (PAWS)

Paul Thompson was appointed as Community Woodland Manager last November. Paul brings 17 years of experience across the public, private and charitable sector, mainly focussed on conservation land management and community engagement through grant funded partnerships; most recently working for the North York Moors National Park Authority and Yorkshire Wildlife Trust.

Paul says the company has a wide range of responsibilities

Paul told us more about the Raincliffe Woods project and about this weeks work.
