Flood Warnings Issued for Yorkshire Coast

Flood warnings have been issued for parts of the River Esk and for Sea front properties in Scarborough and Bridlington.

The Environment Agency have issued three flood warnings for the Yorkshire Coast.

Flooding is expected on the River Esk from Briggswath to Ruswarp

This flood warning has been issued as levels are rising following recent rainfall and snow-melt. Flooding of properties, gardens, roads and paths is possible today, Saturday 06/02/2021. The area most at risk is around the Ruswarp Pleasure Boat ticket office.

The Environment Agency ask people to avoid walking or driving through flood water and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.

In Scarborough a flood warning has been issued as overtopping waves and spray are expected on high tides at Scarborough. The area of concern is the North Bay promenade, and flooding of low-lying land, the road and property is possible. Particular times of concern are on Sunday 07/02/21, from 1am until 4am, and Sunday from 2pm until 5pm. The public are asked to stay away from seafront areas as large waves can be dangerous.

In Bridlington a flood warning for North Promenade remains in force. Overtopping is expected to affect Harbour Road and the Floral Pavillion areas in Bridlington from 11pm today, Saturday 06/02/21 until 6am on Sunday 07/02/2021 and again on Sunday from midday until 6pm. Strong winds are forecast to cause continued large waves. Please be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous.
