The Environment Agency is closely monitoring the situation and warns that these high tides are expected to continue throughout the weekend. Consequently, existing warnings may be re-issued and further alerts may be issued for subsequent tides on Sunday.
Residents and businesses in the affected areas are urged to take the following precautions:
- Move possessions and valuables to higher ground.
- Prepare a flood kit with essential items such as food, water, medication, and warm clothing.
- Stay informed about the latest flood warnings and alerts by checking the Environment Agency website or calling Floodline.
- Avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from coastal areas, including beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths, and roads, as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous.
The Environment Agency is taking proactive measures to mitigate the risk of flooding. This includes closing flood gates at Hornsea to protect vulnerable areas.
The Environment Agency is urging everyone to be vigilant and take the necessary steps to protect themselves and their property and says:
"The combination of high tides and large waves poses a significant threat to coastal communities.
Remember, flooding can happen very quickly, and even a small amount of water can cause significant damage. It is essential to take these warnings seriously and act promptly."
