Flood Warnings have been issued for parts of the Esk Valley and Flood Alerts for some other areas of the Yorkshire Coast
Storm Christoph's dumped heavy rain across the UK overnight, triggering dangerously high river levels in some areas.
There are five severe warnings in north-west England and north Wales - meaning there's a risk to life - and homes have been evacuated.
On the Yorkshire Coast Flood Warnings are now in force for
- The River Esk at Lealholm,
- The River Esk at Egton Bridge
- The River Esk from Briggswath to Ruswarp.
The Environment Agency say..
The level of the River Esk at Lealholm is rising again in response to further rainfall over the last 24 hours. River levels are expected to exceed 2.3m at about 02:00 on Thursday, 21/01/2021 and are expected to remain high overnight.
At Egton Bridge River levels are expected to exceed 2.3m at about 02:00 on Thursday, 21/01/2021.
The level of the River Esk at Briggswath is rising again and is forecast to exceed 3.3m in the on the morning of Thursday 21/01/2021 and will remain high for the rest of the week. Areas most at risk are the area around Ruswarp Pleasure Boat Ticket Office.
Please put your flood plan into action, avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses, and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.
There are also lower level Flood Alerts in force for The River Esk in it's entirety the Upper River Derwent and the North Sea Coast at Bridlington.
