A five hour hour search for a vessel off the coast of Flamborough has been called off.
Humber Coastguard initiated a full scale search yesterday (Wednesday 26th July) due to concerns for a missing boat.
Bridlington all weather Shannon lifeboat was paged at 12:25 pm and the inshore lifeboat was also requested to join the search later in the day.
The search area was 13 miles south east off Flamborough Head and on arrival the Bridlington lifeboat took on the role of on scene commander giving other vessels, also searching, areas to cover.
Along with the lifeboat were six other vessels and the UK Coastguard helicopter. Coastal traffic was also requested to keep a lookout and eventually Hornsea Rescue and the Bridlington inshore boat searched an area closer to land.
Humber Coastguard stood the search down later in the day with nothing found but with a request that any vessels in the area keep a look out.
Bridlington Coxswain Andy Rodgers said ‘once we cleared the bay sea conditions changed and there was a 15 to 20 feet swell. Visibility was good but we just did not spot anything’.
