First Weekend Since Lockdown Easing Brings Plea to be "Cautious" From North Yorkshire Leaders

It's the first weekend since the further easing of lockdown restrictions took place on Monday.

Limited indoor gatherings and indoor hospitality are now allowed, with up to six people or two households able to meet in indoors.

But with concern growing this week about the Indian variant, North Yorkshire Police say they will be continuing to take action against people who flout the regulations.

Superintendent Mike Walker is leading North Yorkshire Police’s response to the pandemic and he also chairs the multi-agency North Yorkshire Local Resilience Forum.

Superintendent Walker says caution is needed.

Under stage 3 of the roadmap out of lockdown more places are now able to open to the public and limited meeting indoors is also permitted.

But as more people head out, there is a plea from leaders in North Yorkshire to consider that not everyone has been vaccinated and some people may still want to avoid busy areas.

Richard Webb is the County's director of Health services, he's asking people to be considerate.

North Yorkshire Police say they will only take action against blatant breaches of the health protection regulations.

Superintendent Walker added :

"Our officers and staff are continuing to provide a highly visible and reassuring presence in our communities. They are also working alongside our local authority and trading standards partners to ensure the reopening of pubs and restaurants is carried out in a Covid-secure environment. There have been no issues or incidents to report at this time.”
