The Seasiders hit the road for the second week in a row today, when they take on Carlton Town at the Bill Stokeld Stadium.
Last Friday evening, Bridlington lost 3-1 against Bradford Park Avenue. Benn Lewis headed home on the brink of half time to level the game, though substitute Myles La Bastide’s second half brace gave the West Yorkshire side the three points.
Denny Ingram said:
“Second half, we didn’t turn up, it’s as simple as that. I thought in the first half we controlled the game really well.”
Before the Bradford game, the Seasiders faced Newton Aycliffe and Emley AFC at the Mounting Systems Stadium, though both games ended in 2-0 defeats, and as such they go into the Consett clash off the back of three consecutive defeats by two goals.
To make matters worse, Heaton Stannington netted a 92nd minute equaliser against 10-man Stocksbridge Park Steels, despite them too being reduced to 10 men as goalkeeper Lewis Brass was dismissed.
The game ended 1-1, with Heaton Stannigton going above Bridlington Town, who are now in the relegation zone, occupying 19th place.
Saturday’s opponents, Carlton Town, have failed to build on a strong season last campaign, which saw them reach the playoffs. They finished 5th, losing 2-0 against eventual playoff winners Stockton Town, though many saw their campaign as an overachievement, having narrowly avoided relegation the season prior.
However, the Millers have had to settle for mid table thus far, as they sit 12th with 27 points. They drew 2-2 with Ashington AFC last time out, and won the previous game 2-1 against Bradford Park Avenue.
That came, however, after 4-1 defeat against strugglers Brighouse Town, so consistency is the main problem for Tommy Brookbanks and Mark Harvey’s side.
Carlton travelled to Bridlington on the opening day of the Northern Premier League East season, and won 1-0 in a tight affair.
Bridlington Town’s last trip to Carlton was a disastrous one, losing 5-0 on a Tuesday night in February, though the season before they did pick up a 4-2 victory at the Bill Stokeld Stadium.
