Filey's Ravine Road Toilet Block is to be Demolished.
The demolition of the Ravine Toilet block has this week been approved by planners.
The toilet block was closed last November, a new facility will eventually be built but there are concerns about a lack of temporary facilities in the meantime.
Speaking at this weeks planning meeting Councillor Lindsay Burr supported the demolition but called for some form of temporary toilets to be deployed in the interim.
Filey resident Jonathan Cairns spoke at the planning meeting in Malton to highlight issues that have been caused by the closure of the Ravine Toilets and to make the case for temporary toilets to be deployed in the interim.
Mr Cairns said that local traders were being impacted by the loss of the toilets.
The toilets have been closed since last November, the council say repairs to the building are unfeasible, instead it will be knocked down and replaced with a new facility.
Planning permission for the demolition has been approved this week, but the planning committee couldn't commit to deploying temporary toilets for the summer season.
Councillor Caroline Goodrick is the planning committee chair.
Speaking at a meeting of Filey town Council last month the Mayor -Councillor Jacqui Houlden-Banks - said the town would not cope this summer if there weren't any public toilets at Coble Landing. The Mayor said that it was "imperative" that toilets are available at Coble Landing for the summer season.
This is the Coast understands that a petition is being raised by local residents and businesses to ask North Yorkshire Council for temporary toilets.
