Next year's local government reorganisation will see Filey come under a different local committee to Scarborough and Whitby.
When the new "North Yorkshire Council" comes in to being next year it will see the end of Scarborough Borough Council.
The new authority will be a unitary council taking on the roles of both the existing county council and the district and borough councils.
Under the plans it is proposed that there will be a network of local area committee's set up to deal with local issues, but these committees are going to be based on the current parliamentary constituency's and not the district council footprints.
That means that while Scarborough and Whitby will be in one area, Filey will be in a separate larger area with Ryedale.
Hunmanby Councillor Michelle Donohue-Moncrieff has some concerns about that.
Michelle thinks harmonising some local policy issues, including around housing and planning, might prove to be difficult.
The local area committee's will be just one layer of local decision making with the existing town councils in Filey and Whitby expected to continue. Scarborough is also expected to end up with a Town Council.
Scarborough and Harrogate are currently the only major places in North Yorkshire not to be covered by either a parish or a town council.
North Yorkshire County Council's website says of the local area committees:
"There will be greater transparency with powerful new area constituency committees. They will oversee their local areas, championing their cause, strengthening relationships with their MPs and making important decisions locally on vital matters such as planning and licensing, holding the new council to account."
The County Council website also outlines possible enhance powers for parish and town councils:
"Greater powers and funding will be passed to parish and town councils, for those that would welcome them, and the new council will support them to take control of local services and facilities.
Parish and town councils, and parish meetings, come in all shapes and sizes and operate in different ways. The new council will work with them all, recognise their value and help with development when needed. Crucially it will empower them to do more if they want to do so.
The new council will work with any town and parish council that wants to do more, for example, to deliver or commission services; providing they are able to demonstrate value for money and the ability to deliver. If these conditions are met then the new council will be open to funding the arrangements. The council would work with a first wave of forerunner town and parish councils to develop the concept. Other town and parish councils could then follow."
