FA Cup Exit for Whitby Town

Whitby Town put two goals past league one opponents Bristol Rovers as their Emirates FA Cup run came to an end.

The Blues had made the first round of the competition for the first time in twenty years but the draw had given them what was always going to be a difficult challenge of an away game at Bristol Rovers.

Rovers opened the score sheet on five minutes but to the delight of the 388 travelling Whitby fans, Town equalised just 8 minutes later through Junior Mondal.

But by half time, Rovers were firmly in control with a 4-1 lead, the fourth coming from a soft penalty.

In the second half Whitby fought back and added a second goal through Connor Simpson who had been bought on as a half time substitute.

But an own goal and two further strikes from Rovers sealed Town's fate and they exit the competition following the 7-2 defeat.

Speaking ahead of the game club Chief Executive - Graeme Hinchliffe - said getting to the first round had done the club a world of good.

One silver lining for Whitby Town is that the rules of the FA Cup see all gate money split 50/50 between the clubs, the official attendance was 4,329
