Scarborough and Whitby's Park and Ride sites are to be used as case study's for plans to create EV Hyperhubs and the Seamer waste site for a study on producing green hydrogen.
As electric cars become more common the challenges of charging them in tourist hotspots is being looked at in a new feasibility study being undertaken by North Yorkshire Council.
The study has received government net zero funding.
North Yorkshire Council's Executive Member for Managing the Environment, Councillor Greg White, says the project will look at whether hyper-hubs would be workable at the town's park and ride sites.
Councillor White says that while EV charging is a issue across North Yorkshire, the coastal towns have some particular challenges due to number of tourists that visit.
The EV Hyperhub is just one of a number of feasibility studies that will take place in North Yorkshire sharing £1m of funding from the Governments Net Zero Fund.
Among the other projects is a new study will look at whether the Seamer Carr Household Waste site in Scarborough could be used to produce green hydrogen. Councillor Greg White, says it's an interesting idea.
Councillor White says that running the feasibility studies will enable the council to be in a stronger position to apply for development funding when it becomes available.
North Yorkshire & York was recently awarded £7m from the net zero fund with 23 schemes receiving a share of the money. Greg says some of the funding will be used to actually deliver capital projects and some will be used for the feasibility schemes.
North Yorkshire Council’s leader, Cllr Carl Les, said:
“This is a significant step forward for projects which will be extremely important to help to achieve our aims of tackling the threat of climate change, while driving forward innovation and expertise in the green technology sector.
“This is a clear indication of the benefits that are already being realised ahead of the proposed devolution deal for York and North Yorkshire being introduced.
“These projects will provide more jobs and greater career opportunities, while developing what is such an important sector that will be recognised nationally and bring in more investment to York and North Yorkshire.”
