Economy Causing Pressures for North Yorkshire's Part Time Firefighters

The cost of living crisis is having an impact on the availability of fire fighters in North Yorkshire.

The Fire service relies heavily on a team of "on-call" fire fighters, they work part time for the service around their main day job.

Head of Assurance, James Manning, says that's become harder for many as the economic situation has worsened.

The North Yorkshire Service has been looking at ways of improving it's offer to "On-Call" fire fighters and has been taking steps to simplify the way the system works to make it easier for more people to be able to take on the role around their main work commitments.

The fire service says it's recently streamlined it's training for the on-call roles, to make it more accessible to more people.

Talent & Diversity Lead - Marinder Kaur - says that's lead to greater range of people becoming "on-call" fire fighters in the county.
