Eco Event Comes To Scarborough

An event to help people become more self-sufficient and eco-efficient is happening in Scarborough today.

The Waste Not Want Not Fair is hosted by the town's Coast and Vale Community Action group (Cavca).

Local organisations will present blacksmithing, preserve-making, gardening, sewing and much more.

There'll also be more on upcycling furniture, where objects are repurposed rather than bought in.

David Stone, from Cavca, has more:

The event is taking place from 11am to 3pm at the Street. Adults and children will be able to get hands on with activities such as mini wormery making, solar light jar making, hand and machine sewing, spinning & weaving, while learning about local heritage skills and picking up knowledge that can help communities to save money, get creative and be more self-sufficient.

David says the event, which takes place at the Street from 11am until 3pm in Halls A & B, is really worth visiting:

The aim of the Waste Not Want Not project is to demonstrate how skills and knowledge that were commonplace two or three generations ago can help communities now to address the challenges they face.

The project is organised around three broad headings: Food, Clothing and Upcycling.  Activities include gardening to provide food, cooking in ways that don’t waste food, preserving food, foraging, making and repairing clothes, knitting, spinning and weaving, and how to come together to share, celebrate, tell our stories and communicate with each other.
