Operation Coastline will see high visibility patrols and disruption activity taking place over the summer season.
Humberside Police say that Operation Coastline will see a ramping up of resources over the summer months to deal with the annual influx of visitors to the East Yorkshire Coast.
Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner - Jonathan Evison - says the influx of summer visitors presents some unique challenges for the area.
Assistant Chief Constable Lisa Hogan said:
“Under this operation our priority will be supporting our coastal communities through the summer months, managing the influx of tourists and visitors, and tackling criminality.
You will see high visibility patrolling and disruption activity; as always we will not rest in taking action against those that seek to harm our communities.”
Jonathan Evison says he would like to see Operation Coastline become an annual campaign.
The Commissioner says he wants the summer operation to build on the success of the Rural Policing Team which was introduced to East Yorkshire three years ago. Jonathan Evison says investment in the new team has paid off.
Mr Evison said,
“I am really proud of the investment we have made into the Rural Crime Team through the CSP Rural Crime Project, which has allowed the procurement of equipment and completion of crime prevention initiatives.
The Humberside Police Rural Crime Team have done an excellent job in disrupting criminality as part of their work so far, we have really seen a difference the team has made to our rural areas in the region.
But we know there is still more to do to support our coastal areas, especially during the summer months when we traditionally see a large influx of visitors, and I want to be at the centre of that.”
