East Riding's Police Force Advertise Chief Constable Role

Humberside Police is re-advertising for the role of Chief Constable over 6 months after it became vacant.

Following Paul Anderson’s decision to retire in June 2024, Humberside Police has been searching for its next Chief Constable. In July the force appointed Judi Heaton, a previously retired officer on a temporary, six month basis. In December Ms Heaton’s contract was extended by a further six months.

As of January 2, the force have re-commenced the search for the next Chief Constable after not receiving a single application in the first recruitment attempt that ended in August. The contract for the new Chief Constable will be for up to five years, with the deadline for applications being February 2.

The timeline for the recruitment process is as follows.

January 2 – Advert live

January 14 – Familiarisation Day for interested candidates

February 2 – Deadline for applications

February 4 – Shortlisting

February 11 – Stakeholder Panel

February 12 – Assessment Day

The salary for the role is advertised at £171,519 a year. Despite being an incredibly large figure, the wage is considerably less than in forces such as Northumbria Police, West Yorkshire Police, and Essex Police where the Chief Constables all earn in excess of £200,000 a year.
