East Riding Council's annual parking report sheds light on visits to coastal car parks and changes to how visitors are paying for parking.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council says that the profit from Car Parking fees across the East Riding is continuing to make a significant contribution to the maintenance of local highways.
The annual car parking report for 2022-2023 revealed that total income from car parks amounted to over £4 million for the last financial year.
The council's Acting Director of Asset Strategy - Claire Hoskins - says the council made a £550,000 profit from it's parking income.
Claire Hoskins - says the car park ticket statistics show a return of visitors to coastal areas in the summer months and a change in the way people pay for their parking.
The annual parking report stated that overall ticket issuance for the past 2 years has rebounded to near pre-Covid levels.
Non-cash payments represent 56% of all ticket purchases a 7% increase from 2021-22.
The income from the Council’s on-street and off-street parking charges and enforcement activities is used to meet the implementation and operational costs of parking services including Civil Parking Enforcement.
Legislation prescribes how the Council can use income from on-street parking and on and off-street enforcement activities, after maintenance and
operational costs. Within the East Riding, the Council has determined that in the event of any surplus arising, it should be used together with the highways budget to contribute towards highways improvement schemes
