Drop In Event in Bridlington Today for East Riding Local Plan Review

Monday, 7 November 2022 09:53

By Joe Gerrard, Local Democracy Reporter

People in Bridlington have the opportunity to find out more about the draft East Riding Local Plan today which will help shape planning policy in the county.

Local residents, businesses and other stakeholders have until Monday, December 5 to comment on the draft Local Plan online or at one of East Riding Council’s drop-in sessions.

One of those drop in sessions is taking place at Bridlington Spa today from midday until 7pm.

Council Planning Portfolio Holder Cllr Claire Holmes said the draft would help guide planning and assess applications until 2039 as she urged local people  to comment on it.

It comes as the final draft version of the document is set for submission in early 2023.

It is then set to be examined by a Government inspector before being adopted in 2024, provided it is acceptable and complies with planning policy.

It  is being drawn up as the one adopted in 2016 is now out of date.

It includes the number of homes earmarked for each East Riding town and village during the plan’s lifetime as well as commercial development and infrastructure.

Previous rounds of consultations have already seen changes to the plan.

They include reducing the amount of homes earmarked for Howden from 2,220 to 1,800 and a pledge to built a new relief road before they are built.

Cllr Holmes said the council wanted to hear what locals had to say about the draft plan before officials submit it.

The portfolio holder said:

“This is a really important document for shaping communities for the future.

“So we really want residents to get involved.

“Equally, it’s an opportunity for residents to find out information about what’s planned for the future.”
