Disappointment For 85 Year Old Scarborough Rambler

85 year old Cliff had to withdraw from three peaks fund raising challenge yesterday.

Cliff Coultas was taking on the 24 mile, 12 hour challenge with his daughter in law Julie Kadis. The pair have a long history of completing fund raising walks, this time they are raising funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Cliff and Julie set off yesterday morning on the trek which included 1,585m of ascent, but Cliff had to pull out of the challenge while attempting to reach the top of Whernside after suffering breathing difficulties.

Julie says:

"After climbing the mighty Ingleborough 723m  yesterday morning then trekking cross country and getting 3/4 of the way up the highest peak Whernside 736m I  made the correct decision to pull Cliff out of the challenge as he was having breathing difficulties.

Cliff is absolutely devastated and shed a few tears as he thinks he’s letting everyone down. He most certainly is not .

The conditions on Ingleborough were horrendous, you could not stand up with the wind and rain belting down , he’s done fabulously and I’m extremely proud.

Thank you to everyone who has continued to donate money to our cause, the fabulous Yorkshire Air Ambulance . We have raised around £1200 so far.

I pulled out of the challenge too, I couldn’t leave Cliff halfway up the mountain. We made our way back down , across the fells under the beautiful Ribblehead Viaduct and back to the station . "
