York and North Yorkshire's Deputy Mayor says she expects to see an increase in the number of cases of Violence against Women and Girls
Jo Coles says a new focus on tackling the issues will probably lead to more cases being reported in the short term - which she says is a good thing.
The Deputy Mayor for Police, Fire and Crime says she wants to ensure that more women and girls have the confidence to come forward when they've been the victims of violence.
Jo Coles is working on a new strategy to address Violence against Women and Girls in the county and says a key element is improving women's confidence in reporting incidents.
Earlier this week the Deputy Mayor held a summit to address the pressing issue of violence against women and girls (VAWG) in the region. The event brought together professionals from various sectors, including policing, criminal justice, and the voluntary and community sectors, to collaborate on improving support for victims and tackling the root causes of VAWG.
