Whitby's Lifeboat crew are back in training this week after the success of their flag weekend.
The volunteer crew spent the weekend talking to members of the public about the work they do and showing off some of the kit including the new Shannon Class lifeboat that arrived last month
Station Mechanic - Richard Dowson says the crew are getting to grips with the new vessel.
The lifeboat has been funded by a legacy (a gift left to the RNLI in a Will). It will replace the station’s former Trent class lifeboat, George and Mary Webb.
At a cost of £2.5M, the Shannon is the latest class of all-weather lifeboat in the RNLI fleet. Having waterjet propulsion instead of traditional propellers makes the Shannon the RNLI’s most manoeuvrable all-weather lifeboat.
Richard Dowson says the new Shannon Class lifeboat is "phenomenal" both in terms of it's performance and reliability.
Richard says the crew are continuing with their training on the new vessel which arrived last month.
He says it's a big change from the old boat and means everyone is having to pick up new skills.
