COVID Testing Working Well on the Yorkshire Coast

Health leaders in North Yorkshire are thanking everyone for their perseverance with COVID testing and say it is having an effect.

Just over 30,000 people have tested positive for COVID 19 in North Yorkshire since the beginning of March with 159 cases reported in the last two weeks.

The county is now averaging 10 cases per day.

Health leaders in the county say the continued home testing programme is helping to identify asymptomatic cases but they are reminding anyone with symptoms get the the more accurate PCR test rather than the at home tests.

Public Health Consultant, Dr Victoria Turner, says that as well as being more accurate the PCR tests have other benefits.

Dr Turner says the variety of testing methods are working well together thanks to the public's continued efforts.

The advice from the NHS is that If anyone has symptoms, they must book a PCR test.

Testing sites across North Yorkshire, as elsewhere in England, are operated and managed by the Department of Health and Social Care and private contractors employed by them. People with symptoms can book a test via the national government portal.

You can find information about where you can get a PCR test on the county council website at https://www.northyorks.gov.uk/book-coronavirus-covid-19-test-if-youve-got-symptoms

Everyone is being encouraged to test themselves twice a week with home testing kits and report the results to NHS Test and Trace. You can order rapid lateral flow device (LFD) tests online or collect them from participating pharmacies or testing sites. There is more information about getting LFD kits here https://www.northyorks.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-covid-19-test-if-you-dont-have-symptoms
