Cordon at Scarborough Hospital after Discovery

A 50-metre cordon was put in place after suspected ammunition was found at Scarborough Hospital, on Tuesday.

Police were contacted at 12.50pm, on Tuesday, by builders at Scarborough Hospital to report a suspected WW2 shell, which had been found as they excavated land for ongoing improvements to the hospital.

As a precaution the Army Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) team were consulted and a 50 metre cordon was placed around the device. This did not cause any disruption to the hospital or nearby road network.

On arrival the device was assessed by the EOD and was not deemed to pose any threat. It has since been removed from the site so as not to cause any further issues.
