Concerns Raised over Two Whitby Landmarks

Concerns have been raised about the condition of two Whitby landmarks.

Concerns have been raised about the condition of Whitby's famous Whale Bones.

The Whalebone arch on North Terrace is one of the towns signature landmarks.

Local resident Ada Myers has asked the town council to urgently look at the condition of the bones

Ada also raised concerns about the state of the capstans at the West Pier lighthouse.

North Yorkshire Councillor - Neil Swannick - says he is aware of the issues.

The current whale bone arch is the third arch to stand on the cliff top. The original was replaced in 1963 and lasted until the late 1990's when due to safety concerns after years of weathering the bones were taken down. The current arch was installed in 2003.
