Calls For Parish Wood Path To Receive Urgent Maintenance

There have been calls from the local people of Filey for the Parish Wood Path to receive urgent maintenance.

The path was created to enable access for all users when current routes are too muddy but the red gravel used to finish it off has become loose.

Filey Town Councillor Karen Hubbard says that the property committee have received a number of complaints from members of the public about the condition of the path.

The Parish Wood is located on the North side of Filey, at the rear of Sycamore Avenue.

The community woodland was created by Filey Bird Observatory Group in 1996 on land leased from Filey Town Council. Over 3000 trees of eight species were planted by local volunteers and paths were provided through the eastern (public) part of the wood. The western sector is fenced off as a sanctuary area and is used as a ringing station by the East Yorkshire Ringing Group.

Filey Bird Observatory Group continue to maintain this habitat for birds and wildlife.

Councillor Karen Hubbard says that the property committee are considering storing the excess gravel for future use.
